Week 4 - The Power of Now

Our mission at FREE is to break the silence of addiction. We do that by recovering loudly so others don't have to suffer silently. What I know for certain is people don't keep me sober. This building, this community, they don't keep me sober. The meetings, the prayer, the meditation, none of that keeps me sober. God keeps me sober. But what I also know for certain is God does his best work through people and it's my job to be aware of that and open enough to receive that.

Julie Hoelsken, my mom, will join me as our Guest Storyteller! She comes to us from the perspective of the Loved One of an Addict and an Adult Child of an Alcoholic. Her father was an alcoholic, her siblings were all addicts and her daughter is an alcoholic. She’s gonna share the story of finding new life, even in the darkness. “I didn't understand why I had to do the recovery thing as the non-alcoholic or addict. I didn't get how that was going to help —but it saved my life."
