Week 1 - Recovery Myths Busted

Sep 3, 2022

First myth: “It’s their problem, not ours.” How easy it is to look at the other who is battling addiction and say these words. But if we want to make any difference in recovery, we must start with compassion. Aren’t you glad God was filled with compassion for you? And it had nothing to do with whether or not you deserved it. Compassion is the starting place—and we’re all in it together!

Brooke Donohue will join me as our Guest Storyteller. Brooke was in a long term relationship & marriage that was plagued by addiction. She was convinced it was his problem, not hers. Then her baby [adult son] started struggling with addiction. Brooke realized there was some hard, inner work to be done: “When I took the time to look at myself and my own dysfunction, I had to dig deep. I had to access the part of me that I suppressed for so long. In doing so, I started to heal. I found compassion for myself, as well as the ones I love who battled and are currently battling addiction.”
