Week 1

Apr 23, 2022

We kick off a 6-week series called YOU BELONG: CREATING SPACE FOR SPIRITUAL REFUGEES.

A spiritual refugee is someone who has a well-founded fear of being the subject of hostility or ill treatment because of his or her spiritual condition. Those who feel like they’ve been kicked around by religion and feel like they don’t belong.

Katy Evans will join us as our Guest Storyteller. At 15, Katy lost her mom to alcoholism, a few months later she was told at a youth group that pre-martial sex was an unforgiveable sin. See, Katy knew that her mom was pregnant with her when she got married. This meant that her mom, who was the purest form of love she had ever known, was now in hell according to what she had been told by this religious organization. For the next 10 years, Katy rejected anything to do with organized religion or with God, and she spiraled out of control in her addiction. Now at 14 years sober, she will share with us how she had to set aside old prejudices to save her own life. Through her journey she has cultivated a new found relationship with God and helps other women in recovery do the same.
