Week 3 - What We Stand For

Feb 25, 2023

Addiction always had a way of driving me deeper into shame, and shame always had a way of driving me deeper into addiction. You were born on a path…and you wandered off that path. But then you have moments where you realize just how far you wandered from the path. T’shuva! [yeah, we’ll talk about that word]. You are always worthy of coming back to your true path. You are always worthy of coming home. God doesn’t do shame. We don’t do shame.

Montee Ball will join me as our Guest Storyteller. Montee was a star running back with the Wisconsin Badgers, then signed with the Denver Broncos in 2013. He began wandering from the good path…alcoholism & shame were taking over. In his words: “When you get on that accelerated path towards success, if you don’t have a plan, it can get ugly quickly.” In 2015, he was arrested for domestic violence and watched the Super Bowl from a jail cell. Montee’s been sober since August 2016. He’s no longer in the NFL; he’s on a different path—“today I’m comfortable with just being in my recovery…being a dad and being in this life process of learning.”
